Police is seizing computers in Poland – hide your IP!

From time to time we bring you stories from different countries, that might act as a warning. A reason for you to hide your IP address. We can give you lots of such reasons, as well as lots of examples what happens when you don’t hide your IP address. But we think real life examples are always the best.
Story was originally published by Dziennik Internautów, and it describes the situation when Polish police is seizing computers in search of evidence.
First, you need to know that it is not punished by law to download films and music in Poland. It does not matter if you download copyrighted content from P2P or BitTorrent network or from a file hosting service. You will not be punished. However you are not allowed to share or in another words distribute such protected content.
DI reports that over past few months it has been informed by users, that their computers were confiscated by the Police. Whole thing started about a year ago, when a movie “Wałęsa. Człowiek z nadziei” was leaked to the internet. The move itself is protected by a law firm Glass – Brudzinski. It was famous in the past for sending out letters to users in Poland with settlement offer over different copyright breach.
Difference now is, that people whose computers were taken calin they receive no such letters with any sort of warning or information that they are suspected of copyright infringement. This now looks more like a ghost chase. Once police has computers they are looking for evidence that indeed law was broken. We think it should opposite.
